Lucie Lacava is a Design Consultant and President of Lacava Design Inc. Since founding her company in 1992, Lacava has developed an international reputation for award-winning editorial design and visual identity. Lacava’s body of work includes the redesign of more than 80 publications across Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe, and the UAE, making her one of the most notable and prolific print designers on the international scene.
On the 25th of September 2010 the Society for News Design honoured Lucie with a Lifetime Achievement Award. She has received more than 100 national and international awards in her career. The Society for News Design has awarded the title “World's Best Designed Newspaper" ten times collectivelly to Le Devoir, Le Soleil, and the National Post. Her most prestigious professional awards include an SND Best of Show award for Le Devoir as well as two Judge's Special Recognition awards for Le Soleil and the National Post, in addition to numerous gold and silver medals.
Lucie has been published in critical books, including Contemporary Newspaper Design (Mark Batty Publisher) and Visions of the Newspaper of the Future (American Press Institute), as well as the World Association of Newspapers report "New Designs, New Formats".
Lacava’s professional contributions include past presidency of the Society for News Design (2001). She is a founding member of the francophone chapter of SND. She has also served as a judge for the Canadian National Newspaper Awards, the Society for News Design, the Society of Publication Designers, NY, and the Malofiej Awards in Pamplona, Spain.
Additionally, Lacava lectures frequently around the world on the topics of newspaper design and typography, a practice that is facilitated by her fluency in four languages. She has lectured at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, the American Press Institute, IFRA, and as a visiting faculty member at the Universidad Catolica de Chile.
