Biography

Anri Sala was born in 1974 in Tirana, Albania. He studied art at the Albanian Academy of Arts from 1992 to 1996. He attended the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in from 1996 to 1998 and studied film direction in Le Fresnoy-Studio National des Arts Contemporains in Tourcoing from 1998 to 2000. He lives and works in Berlin.

Using a range of media including video, photography and installation his work has been featured at venues and exhibitions all over the world. Recent works among other are "Answer Me," shown at Johnen Galerie in Berlin in 2009, and "Why The Lion Roars," shown at 104 in Paris in 2008. With "Purchase Not By Moonlight," a choreographed group of installations, Anri Sala had his first major solo exhibitions in the USA at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami in 2008, the Marian Goodman Gallery, New York and the CAC Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati in 2009.
