Julian Borger is the Guardian's diplomatic editor.

He covered the United States for the paper for more than eight years, and was Washington bureau chief during the Bush administration. Prior to that, he spent a decade as a foreign correspondent covering the Bosnian war from Sarajevo and the Middle East from Jerusalem. He started his professional life as an economist, working for two years in southern Africa, but switched over to journalism in the 1980s. He reported from Africa for the BBC, before moving to Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall and working at The Guardian.
