FORA.tv Speaker - James P. Dougherty
As an Operating Partner at Great Hill Partners, Dougherty works with portfolio company management teams to maximize performance and participates in investment evaluation and transaction diligence.
Dougherty serves on the Boards of SMART Business Advisory and Consulting, LLC, PayChoice, Inc., Anthem Education Group and FirstCall HealthCare. He works closely with the management of Latisys Corp. and Passport Health Communications.
He has successfully turned around and built three companies: IntraLinks, Gartner Group and MetaMatrix. As CEO of IntraLinks, Dougherty repositioned a small, money losing operation into a highly profitable and dominant shared workspace platform. In less than three years, 2000 to 2002, Dougherty rebuilt the technology platform still being used today, changed the revenue model, raised $50M of private equity, increased bookings and revenues over 10x in the headwinds of the dotcom recession, and built a market leading team. The company was eventually sold for $440M.
Dougherty was Head of Global Operations for Gartner Inc., overseeing a global tech information consultancy with 2000 people and nearly $900 million of revenue. Dougherty is credited by the company's investors and analysts for reversing Gartner's 3-year 45% decline in contract value and concurrent doubling of the stock price.
Market capitalization went from $650M to $1.3B during his tenure. As CEO of MetaMatrix, Dougherty repositioned a troubled company and successfully sold the operation to KPCB. Jim was previously head of Lotus' Internet Division and CEO of Prodigy Software which was successfully sold to SBC.
