Known for his work on social policy, health care reform, and economic insecurity, Jacob S. Hacker is widely recognized for his 2007 proposal on universal healthcare, which became the basis for several presidential aspirants' plans. Hacker's expert analyses have appeared in a wealth of publications including the American Political Science Review, The British Journal of Political Science, Perspectives on Politics, The New York Times Magazine, The New Republic, and The Washington Post. He is currently co-writing a book with Paul Pierson on inequality and American politics and, with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation, developing a new index of economic security. Hacker is currently transitioning from Yale University to the University of California at Berkeley, where he will continue to teach political science and co-direct the Center for Health, Economic, and Family Security. He oversees a Social Science Research Council project on the ‘privatization of risk,' serves on the board of the National Academy of Social Insurance, and is a Fellow of the New America Foundation.
