FORA.tv Speaker - Spike Mendelsohn
Spike Mendelsohn was 13 years old when he had his first real experience in the kitchen, putting his feet to the fire by filling in for a missing saute cook at the height of the evening rush in his parents busy restaurant. His mom remembers that night vividly, insisting she instantly knew he was destined to be a great chef one day.
Born in Montreal, Canada and trained in classic French cuisine in restaurants around the world, Spike has worked with Gerard Boyer at Les Crayeres, Thomas Keller at Bouchon, The Maccioni Family at Le Cirque and was chef de cuisine at Mai House, owned by the renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent and Chef Michael Huynh. His latest venture has been opening a new restaurant, Good Stuff Eatery, featuring his own personal weakness - handmade hamburgers, handcut fries, and handspun milkshakes in an environmentally friendly atmosphere. Spike was also a competitor in season four of Top Chef, where he made it to the final five.
Spike takes the kitchen by storm with the fuse of a true chef. He believes in knowing the basics but also in adding an exotic flair in his quest to be the very best. Now he partners with Kelsey Nixon, fan favorite chef and former The Next Food Network Star contestant, in a series of Web videos on Food2 that offers two takes on classic dishes.
