Victoria Nuland was the 18th United States permanent representative to NATO from 2005 to 2008. She worked on the full range of transatlantic security issues, including operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, NATO enlargement, cyber security, and missile defenses. A career foreign service officer, she was principal deputy national security adviser to Vice President Cheney and worked on the promotion of democracy and security in Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Lebanon, and the Middle East, among other issues. She has also served as deputy permanent representative to NATO in Brussels and as deputy director for former Soviet Union affairs at the Department of State.
