Matthew Clifton is the Research Manager at the New Local Government Network. He has been a policy adviser in Islington, Enfield and Hounslow councils. In Hounslow he was also a senior economic development officer managing cross borough regeneration. Matthew also spent four years in Brussels working with the European Commission and in the European Parliament where he specialised in EU social policy, civil liberties, and the regulation of public services. Matthew graduated from Exeter University with a BA Honours in Economics and Politics with European Study and has a master's degree in Mass Communications. He also won a Japanese government scholarship to study in Japan gaining an MA in International Relations at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
