Ambassador Roberto Abdenur was named Brazil's ambassador to the United States by President Lula da Silva in April of 2004. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1942, Abdenur went on to study law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and later economics at the London School of Economics. A career diplomat, he has held a variety of positions at the Ministry for External Relations in Brasilia, including Deputy Minister for External Relations. Abroad, Abdenur served as Ambassador to Ecuador, China, Germany, and Austria. He speaks Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, and German. Ambassador Abdenur is married with three children. .
