Tamar Lewin is a financial reporter for The New York Times. She joined The New York Times in 1982 as a financial reporter and has written for the business, national, and education desks. In 1987, she became the Times national correspondent, covering social policy issues. Before joining the Times, she was the Washington bureau chief, and later managing editor, of the National Law Journal. She is a graduate of Columbia Law School and Barnard College.
