Dr Rosemary Hollis is director of research at Chatham House (the Royal Institute of International Affairs) in London, with overall responsibility for research activity, project formulation and grant applications as well as the institute's publications. She assumed this post in April 2005, having completed ten years as head of the Middle East programme at Chatham House. The focus of her own research and writing is foreign policy and security issues in the Middle East, particularly European, EU, UK and US relations with the region and transatlantic differences over the issues. From 1990-95, she headed the Middle East Programme at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence Studies. From 1980-89 she was a lecturer in Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University in Washington, DC, where she also gained a PhD in Political Science. Prior to that she held a variety of research posts in the media and commerce in London, having graduated from King’s College, London with a BA in History (1974) and MA in War Studies (1975).
