Biography

Andy Lippman has spent the last 40 years at MIT, starting as an undergraduate, helping found the MIT Media Lab, and is now its associate director. In the 1980s he developed maps that we know about today as Google's streetview. He helped pioneer visual computing and communications systems such as MPEG and digital HDTV. He formed the Media Lab's Digital Life Program that engages 15 researchers and 45 companies in the invention and development of technologies and applications for human creativity and learning. He is also the co-principal investigator of the MIT Communications Futures Program.
