Dr Nigel Rollins joined the Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health of WHO in July 2008. He trained as a paediatrician in Belfast, Northern Ireland and his work focuses on interventions to improve child survival, growth and development. This includes implementation research to improve coverage and quality of care and also the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and infant feeding. Prior to joining WHO, Dr Rollins was Professor and head of the Centre for Maternal and Child Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Durban, South Africa, where he lived and worked for 14 years.
