MEP Roberta Metsola was elected to the European Parliament in 2013, becoming one of Malta's first female Members of the European Parliament. Roberta was elected on the Nationalist Party ticket (PN) and sits within the European People’s Party (EPP) Group within the European Parliament. Professionally she is a lawyer who has specialised in European law and politics. She has previously worked at the Permanent Representation of Malta to the European Union and as legal advisor to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Roberta is currently the Vice-Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Petitions (PETI), a full Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and the Delegation for relations with the United States (D-US) and a substitute member of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and the Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand (DANZ).
