Biography

Marci Blackman's first novel, Po Man's Child, received the American Library Association's Stonewall Award for Best Fiction and the Firecracker Alternative Book Award for Best New Fiction. Her second novel, Tradition was noted as one of Band of Thebes best books of 2013. Blackman's short fiction and poetry have appeared in the following anthologies: Black Like Us (Cleis Press); Fetish (Four Walls Eight Windows); Beyond Definition: New Writing from Gay and Lesbian San Francisco (Manic D Press); Signs of Life: Channel Surfing through 90s Culture (Manic D Press); Revival: Spoken Word from Lollapalooza '94 (Manic D Press); Brown Sugar (Dutton, Plume). And Blackman's first nonfiction title, Bike NYC: The Cyclist's Guide to New York City, was published in 2011 on Skyhorse Press. An avid cyclist and veteran of the Sister Spit Rambling Road Show, Blackman once spent six weeks in a van with 11 queer writers on a cross country spoken word tour and 12 weeks, alone on a bicycle, pedaling from San Francisco to the outer banks of North Carolina. Blackman lives and writes in Brooklyn, NY.
