FORA.tv Speaker - Catherine Mohr
Catherine Mohr is a senior research director at Intuitive Surgical, maker of the Da Vinci surgical robot, where she’s designing the next generation of medical technology. It’s a role for which she’s uniquely qualified. Before earning her medical degree at Stanford, Mohr trained as a mechanical engineer at MIT’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. She was also a member of the school’s solar-powered car team, building and racing cars around the world. She went on to work for nine years with aeronautics visionary Paul MacCready, building advanced air and land vehicles at AeroVironment. Returning to school to study medicine, she designed and patented a surgical device and in 2005 cofounded a company to commercialize it, later purchased by Aragon Surgical. Along with her work at Intuitive, Mohr is a consulting assistant professor at Stanford School of Medicine and a faculty member at Singularity University, based at NASA’s Ames Research Center.
