Biography

Dr. Susan Athey is a Professor of Economics at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. She received her BA from Duke University in economics, mathematics, and computer science, and her PhD in economics from Stanford Graduate School of Business. She’s consulted for Microsoft Corporation since 2007, focusing on online services. Her current research covers the economics of the digital markets, including the design of auction-based marketplaces, internet search, online advertising, the news media, virtual currencies, and the statistical analysis of big data. Susan received the John Bates Clark Medal, which is awarded to the American economist under 40 judged to have made the most significant contribution to economics.
