Dana Gooley is Associate Professor of Music at Brown University. He did his undergraduate studies at New England Conservatory and Wesleyan University, and received his Ph.D. in musicology from Princeton University in 1999. His publications have centered on Franz Liszt, virtuoso performers, music criticism and public culture in the nineteenth century. He has also published on improvisation, music criticism, and jazz. He is the author of The Virtuoso Liszt (Cambridge University Press, 2004), and co-editor, with Christopher Gibbs, of Franz Liszt and His World (Princeton University Press, 2006).
