Steven Lerman is provost of the George Washington University and executive vice president for academic affairs. Since arriving at GW, Lerman has overseen a number of major initiatives. A strong advocate of global education, Lerman has worked alongside GW’s School of Business to establish partnerships with two institutions of higher education in China.

Lerman joined the George Washington University from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he served as vice chancellor and dean for graduate education. He joined the MIT faculty in 1975 as an assistant professor and rose through the ranks, twice serving as chair of the faculty. At GW, Lerman holds the A. James Clark Chair in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
