Biography

Matthew Barreto is an associate professor of political science at the University of Washington in Seattle, and the director of the Washington Institute for the Study of Ethnicity and Race. He is also a founding principal of Latino Decisions.

Dr. Barreto’s research has been published in the American Political Science Review and other peerreviewed academic journals, and he is the author of Ethnic Clues: The Role of Shared Ethnicity in Latino Political Behavior. In 2008, he was a co-principal investigator of the American National Election Study Latino oversample, which included the first ever-Spanish language translation of the ANES and the first ever oversample of Latino voters. He earned his B.S. from Eastern New Mexico University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Irvine.
