In 2004 James Dunkerley became Director of the new Institute for the Study of the Americas (ISA). He aims to continue teaching Latin American history and, with his colleagues Chris Dummitt and Kate Quinn, he plans to teach a new course on Comparative American Development from academic year 2006-7. Amongst research interests enlivened by the establishment of ISA and the drafting of his inaugural lecture Dreaming of Freedom in the Americas, Dunkerley is developing work on the history of Anti-Americanism and of Anti-Hispanism and the "Black Legend."
