Mariam Assefa has been Executive Director and CEO of World Education Services (WES) since 1982. WES is a not-for-profit credential evaluation organization headquartered in New York and with offices in five other US cities and in Toronto, Canada. Mariam Assefa is active in international education and exchange. She is the author of a 1988 book on the system of education of France. She has made frequent presentations on foreign educational systems and the recognition of international educational credentials at conferences and workshops in the United States and abroad. As a consultant for the US government, she has been involved in discussions regarding the recognition of academic credentials in Europe and West Africa. In 2006 Mariam Assefa served as President of NAFSA: Association of International Educators. In 2005 she was awarded Metro International's Fulbright Award for Contribution to International Educational Exchange. Mariam Assefa is a graduate of the University of Montpellier (France) and the State University of New York at Buffalo.
