Mr. Abdel-Elah Al-Khatib served as Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General's to Libya in 2011. Currently, he is a Member of the Upper House of Parliament of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, has served twice as Jordanian Foreign Minister (1998-2002 and 2005-2007), was appointed Chairman of the Economic and Social Council of Jordan in 2009, and served as Minister of Tourism from 1995 to 1996. He has held various positions in the private sector, including CEO of investment and industrial companies. Mr. Al-Khatib started his career as a Diplomat and served as Head of the Special Bureau of the Foreign Ministry and as a Member of the Embassy in Washington, DC, and at Jordan's UN Mission in New York. He is an active contributor to the work of civil society in Jordan, and he is currently the Chairman of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature.
