Learn about what to expect and when is the right time to introduce your Donor Child to their Donor Siblings.
Brandy Black is Editor-in-Chief of The Next Family founded in 2009.”TNF” is an online magazine for the modern parent. With a growing community of diverse families, it is important to acknowledge who is already out there in larger numbers than ever. The site has a collection of articles and blogs that address stories of all types of families, two moms, two dads, a single mom, multi-racial families and the like. The Next Family recently launched a “Kids of LGBT Parents” section for parents who seek advice. The Next Family has created a children’s CD for gay parents called “Warm Sun”.
Brandy Black has been published on several web sites including Huffington Post. She was the Founder of Chi Chi’s Word Parlor in 2007. Chi Chi’s is a local literary evening for writers, musicians and improvisational artists to express themselves in salon type setting. This quaterly event ends with wine and cheese on the courtyard. Chi Chi’s has been compared to a live “This American Life”. With celebrity guests and local musicians this will always prove to be a fabulous evening of fun. Chi Chi’s was part of the 2009 Los Angeles book fair.
Brandy Black is also currently working on her memoirs as a mom raising three children with her wife.
Dr. Catherine DeUgarte
Catherine M. DeUgarte Completed her undergraduate and medical school education at Boston University where she graduated from the seven year combined 7 year BA/MD program. She then completed her OBGYN residency at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and afterwards a combined fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinogy and Infertility at UCLA/Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. She then joined the Henry Ford Medical Group in Detroit, Michigan where she was a senior staff physician in the REI division before returning back to Los Angeles where she joined Pacific Fertility Center-Los Angeles.
Dr. DeUgarte is board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She is a Member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine. She has received several awards and has published multiple scientific papers, articles and book chapters in several areas of infertility and sexual dysfunction and is a Clinical Professor at UCLA. Her interests include preimplantation genetic diagnosis, male and female infertility, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and female sexual dysfunction. She speaks Spanish, French, and Romanian in addition to English.
Stephen Lee is an independent documentary filmmaker. His production company is First Pictures (www.firstpictures.org). His current film is An Extended Family, a feature length documentary about seven families (including his own) that used the same sperm donor to conceive their children.
In addition to his independent film work, Steve is an Associate Professor in Santa Clara University’s Department of Communication. He teaches courses in digital filmmaking, film and television history/theory/criticism, and popular culture studies. He also has served as an Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences since 2007. Steve received his MA and PhD in Communication (Radio-Television-Film) from the University of Texas.
Carla Lunblade, M.S., L.P.C., N.C.C., received her B.S. in psychology and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern Oregon University. She received her M.S. in Applied Psychology with a Concentration in Mental Health Counseling from Southern Oregon University. Her professional affiliations include the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
Carla is an Oregon licensed clinical therapist with a clinical therapy practice in Medford, Oregon and an Elite Skills Analyst practice in Beverly Hills, California. Carla has also experienced years of infertility. Proudly, she is now the mother of two children, one born using IVF and donation. From both clinical professional and personal perspectives Carla Lundblade understands infertility.

Carla lives in Los Angeles, California and Medford, Oregon. She enjoys life with her husband, Rick Lundblade – a personal injury and sports attorney, as well as a former professional baseball player, and her two sons, Gaige 23 and Derrick 12.
