Closing concert featuring members of Nomadic, Delhi 2 Dublin, Jaaleekay, and other artists from the festival
Delhi 2 Dublin
Delhi 2 Dublin is a Canadian world music group formed in 2006 in Vancouver whose style is primarily a fusion of Bhangra and Celtic music. They have played top festivals in Canada, the UK and the U.S. and, in 2011, they expanded their horizons to include performances in the Pacific Rim and Europe. A new album and new international touring opportunities all signal that originality and evolution are all part of the Delhi 2 Dublin experience. Described by one magazine as the “United Nations of rock ‘n’ roll”, they have become one of Canada’s most buzzed- about bands.
Jaaleekay is ‘Crossing Point’ in the West African language of Wolof. It is also an exciting convergence of musical expression between Australian guitarist Steve Berry and Gambian musicians Amadou Suso (kora) and Yusupha Ngum (vocals). Jaaleekay’s music is rich and inventive. It embraces parallel influences yet crosses diverse cultural boundaries - adapting, evolving, and dispersing new ideas.
The Nomadic Band
The Nomadic Band was originally visioned by Amir Paiss and Avishai Barnatan, who are joined by Shai Shriki, Laura Targett, Yohai Cohen and Brook Rees - all world class musicians in their own right- to form a unique sound. The Nomadic Band create an eclectic tapestry inspired by sacred sounds and prayers, Middle Eastern celebrations and Celtic magic.
It is an uplifting and a transformative musical Journey, weaving ancient prayers & original texts, heartfelt upbeat melodies and a unique blend of instruments.
