Join these two highly visible "Choice Moms," and one of the world's biggest sperm banks, for a discussion on the challenges and joys specific to "flying solo" into parent thood. Nina will share clips from her newly released HBO film "FIRST COMES LOVE" which will serve as a springboard for discussion with Mikki who has talked with more than 1,000 women who have embarked on Choice Motherhood. Topics will include: the economic, socio-cultural and lifestyle changes that make this choice work; the typical concerns and struggles single women face in embarking on this journey; and the types of origin conversations mothers will have with their children over time.
A graduate of UCLA, Scott Brown is the Director of Client Experience and Communications for California Cryobank and works closely with both clients and their physicians to ensure the best experience possible. Along with representing CCB at tradeshows, physician office in-services, and regular consumer events, Scott regularly discusses sperm banking in the media with appearances including Dr. Phil, Nightline, The Today Show, and CNN Headline News.
The proud father of a 4 ½ year old daughter, Scott is dedicated to helping the women and men who utilize Cryobank’s services experience the love and joy of parenthood.
Nina Davenport has been making feature-length documentary films since graduating from Harvard College in 1990, where her mentors were filmmakers Robb Moss, Ross McElwee, and Robert Gardner. She grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Since publishing her book “Choosing Single Motherhood: The Thinking Woman’s Guide” in 2005, Mikki has published several books about family-building options… launched the ChoiceMoms.org website, which features more than 500 articles and numerous e-guides for single women about the Choice Motherhood journey… and created the Choice Chat podcast series. She has hosted more than 25 workshops about the single woman’s pathway to motherhood around the U.S., and Toronto and London. In 2013, she has spoken about post-partum issues among the single community, conception options for the LGBTQ community, and will speak as a consumer advocate to sperm bank industry reps at an upcoming AATB conference. She is the Choice Mom of a 14-year-old daughter, born in New York City, where Mikki was an editor and writer for 18 years before relocating to her home state so that she could comfortably raise a second child (her son is now 9). She is the Minneapolis-based founder of Choice Moms LLC and owner of Be-Mondo Publishing.
