The great California design tradition of bold uses of pattern and color is still alive and well, thanks to visionary designers. We bring two together-L.A. and Palm Springs-based fashion and home designer Trina Turk and L.A.-based designer Betsy Burnham-for a discussion on the kinds of patterns that continue to inspire and endure, and why a splash of color will always remain a part of the California design milieu.

Betsy Burnham fell into interior design by way of the fashion industry. She has drawn on her east coast roots and love of color, vintage, travel and the arts, to develop a sophisticated yet playful aesthetic all her own. Betsy is the principal designer of Burnham Design (BurnhamDesign.com), a boutique interior design company in Los Angeles, as well as the founder of Instant / Space (InstantSpaceDesign.com), the first and most established online design service.
Burnham is known for high-design projects that combine refined polish with the grit of the unpredictable, creating tailored yet livable spaces, highlighted by touches of street-style combined with elements from design’s cutting edge. Her style has been called "an unapologetic mix that layers patterns, texture and periods."
Inspired by the multicultural mix, architecture, and landscape of California, the Trina Turk collection is full of the season’s most casually sophisticated and “must have” silhouettes.
