Rick Brennan, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Histrionix Learning Company, shares how game-based learning is changing the classroom. Brennan speaks with Katherine Peters, Executive Editor, Government Executive.
In 1999, Rick Brennan graduated with honors from the University of Houston . In 2000, he was hired to teach social studies at Lanier Middle School-a gifted and talented public school in Houston, Texas. Thereafter, Brennan was hired by Writer’s in the Schools, the Summer Institute for the Gifted and Rice University/Houston Grand Opera. With WITS, Brennan taught poetry and creative writing while providing teacher training and professional development seminars for aspiring instructors. As a program director with SIG, Brennan developed advanced academic courses that were taught to gifted and talented students from all over the world in a summer camp setting on the University of California Berkeley campus. As a consultant for Rice/HGO, Brennan developed creative curriculum and teacher support materials to accompany the Opera–to-Go program. In June, Brennan resigned his teaching position to start as CEO of Histrionix – his game based learning company.
