Durand Guion, Vice President & Men's Fashion Director, Macy's, shares how the brand is breaking down taboos and helping to redefine the modern man.
A San Francisco native, Durand Guion developed a passion for fashion retailing at an early age. He began his career at Judy’s Merchandising Corporation as a weekend sales associate while still in high school and eventually became the district display manager for the West Coast region of the leading-edge contemporary retailer. After graduation, Mr. Guion joined Macy’s West in the Executive Training Program and held various positions, including Women’s Accessories Department Manager and Associate Buyer of Men’s Accessories. Noted for his sharp eye and exceptional taste level, Mr. Guion was later named Men’s Fashion Director.
The same year he joined Macy’s, Mr. Guion also became a faculty member at San Francisco City College. Mr. Guion spent the next two decades building the curriculum for several courses including Visual Merchandising, Fashion Forecasting, Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Styling.
Now based at the New York headquarters for Macy’s, Mr. Guion is an integral resource in reinforcing private-label and menswear brands to meet the lifestyle needs of shoppers. He continues to search the globe for the next big thing in men’s fashion and travels extensively to influence the fashion direction of all menswear categories. Currently, Mr. Guion forecasts and communicates seasonal trends and direction, helping to raise the bar for Macy’s men’s fashion presentations. He has identified many emerging trends in the market and has enhanced Macy’s merchandise mix by discovering fresh talent and brands.
