Amy Harder reports on the intersection of policy, politics and economics of energy and environment issues for National Journal. This includes covering congressional legislation, executive-branch rulemakings and international policy actions affecting the United States. Harder also moderates the popular Energy & Environment Policy Insiders Discussion, which includes more than 100 experts, advocacy leaders and lawmakers in Washington and around the country. Harder moderates and participates in panel discussions hosted online by National Journal and other organizations. She has appeared on CSPAN, MSNBC, Fox News and NPR, among other media outlets; and she delivers speeches throughout the country on national energy and environment policy.
Before covering energy and environment policy, Harder covered the selection of a new Supreme Court justice as the lead reporter for National Journal’s The Ninth Justice blog. Harder has covered a variety of topics since coming to National Journal in May 2008, including foreign policy, national security and political advertising. Prior to her time here, Harder was a staff writer for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. Harder is originally from Washington State and received a B.A. in journalism with honors from Western Washington University.
David Markarian serves as Vice President of Government Affairs at NextEra Energy, Inc. where he oversees federal government affairs in Washington, D.C. Prior to holding this post, Mr. Markarian served as Vice President of Governmental Relations in Washington, D.C. and before that as Vice President of NextEra Energy Resources' Governmental and Regulatory Affairs team with national responsibility for state governmental and regulatory relationships, working with governors, legislators and regulators on energy policy and market structures.
Prior to his work with NextEra Energy in the realm of Governmental Affairs, Mr. Markarian spent a quarter century providing in-court and appellate representation to corporate clients and individuals in the state and federal courts throughout the United States. He has tried, and won, scores of jury and bench trials of all kinds ranging from complex commercial contract cases, tortuous interference with advantageous business relationships, nuisance, property "takings", energy issues, intellectual property, chemical exposure, products liability, wrongful death and catastrophic injury.
Mr. Markarian received Bachelor of Science degrees in History and Political Science from Florida State University in 1982, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami in 1985.
