Ross Mirkarimi served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, representing District 5 from 2005 to 2011. In November 2011 he was elected sheriff of San Francisco and served from January to March 2012, at which time he was suspended by Mayor Ed Lee; he was reinstated by the Board of Supervisors in October 2012. Mirkarimi is a co-founder of the Green Party of California, but in March 2010, became a Democrat.
